Chemical Cleaning Services

There are a number of pitfalls that can arise when carrying out chemical cleaning operations on systems pipework, from the selection of the appropriate chemicals, to the hazard levels and the amount of waste disposal.

In a conventional chemical cleaning operation it is required to utilize strong acids such as Hydrochloric Acid and Phosphoric Acid. The use of inhibitors is also very important to ensure that the acid pickling process is controlled properly. As these acids are classed as "hazardous" it is necessary to cordon off the area where the pipework being cleaned is present.

EnerMech has developed a unique in-house process for the chemical cleaning of pipework systems, in which all of the above problems are addressed and alleviated.

The process utilizes a suite of chemicals which are less hazardous and more environmentally friendly. EnerMech will assemble a cleaning "spread" including pumping units, temporary hoses and pipework, heating coils exchangers, circulating tanks and analytical/control equipment.

One of the most difficult chemical cleaning applications is that of Printed Circuit Heat Exchangers (PCHE). Due to the design of these units, the channels within the unit are extremely small in diameter (2mm), making normal conventional cleaning almost impossible.

EnerMech has developed an extremely effective and efficient method of cleaning these PCHE, which can be carried out either in our yard onshore, or on-site offshore. The method involves a combination of a chemical cleaning circulation, in conjunction with a series of gas puffing operations, which will ensure the optimum conditions inside the PCHE, and produce an effective and efficient cleaning programme.

System Design and Engineering

Our in-house design department works closely with clients which, when combined with our extensive experience in design of specialist equipment for the energy industries, allows us to fully understand both stated and unmet needs.

The tailored nature of our engineering operations allows us to work to a detailed functional design specification or where required, to provide a detailed specification on behalf of the client. Project planning is documented and tracked via standardised project planning software.  This enables EnerMech's hydraulic services team to integrate seamlessly into a clients overall schedule. Dedicated project management ensures schedules are maintained and provides a single point of contact for the customer.

EnerMech has extensive experience in specialist standards that apply to the offshore and energy industries, including ATEX, Lloyds and DNV.  We can provide full design, liaison and certification services where a third party input is required or integrate with a client’s existing third party arrangement.

Dale

Dale, 18, joined EnerMech in October 2011; he has completed his PEO Level 2 and is in 1st year of his NC. Dale has worked in Hydraulic Engineering, Projects, Equipment Rental, Rigging & Lifting and is currently working in Valves.

In Dale's words:

"The thing that I enjoy most about my apprenticeship at EnerMech is that we travel around all the divisions within the company. This then gives us in depth knowledge about each department and an understanding of what each department does. Then this means that at the end of our apprenticeship we aren't working in a division that we are not suited to.

The only thing I don't like about my apprenticeship is the rotational period of each department is only 3 months. Sometimes this is not enough time to learn everything about the department.

I see my career progressing very well at EnerMech and hope to be here for many years. I hope to work my way up through the company to the best of my ability.

My favourite workshop so far has been the Equipment Rental. I really enjoyed this workshop as I was thrown into the deep end. Once I had an understanding I was left to crack on with the task at hand. I got on very well with everyone in the workshop and everyone was more than willing to help when I needed it. By the end of my time in the division I was completing jobs by myself and I felt that I had learnt a lot! Not only about the department but about myself

My favourite subject at college is Computer Aided Design. I like this because I've always been good with computers and I did some CAD at school. Now I'm doing more advanced levels at college and really enjoying it

The tips I would give to a new apprentice starting at EnerMech would be not to be scared to ask for help. As it can be daunting for anyone starting a new job and some can become shy it can be scary asking someone you don't know questions, but everyone at Enermech are more than willing to help with anything be it experienced workers or other apprentices like myself."

Scott

Scott, aged 18 joined EnerMech in October 2011; he completed his NC full time at Banff & Buchan college and is currently working towards his HNC Mechanical. Scott’s previous placements include Hydraulic Products, Equipment Rental, Rigging & Lifting, Equipment Rental and is currently working in Hydraulic Engineering.

In Scott's words:

“I enjoy the fact that every 3 months you move department giving you a chance to get a better understanding of all different types of work. I don’t like that I don’t get so much time to learn about each workshop because I have college 3 days a week.

I see my career progressing very well at EnerMech, I’m looking forward to completing my apprenticeship. Once I have completed my apprenticeship I would like to continue to learn and get more experience in a department that I like.

At the moment, I don’t have a favourite workshop as I haven’t been with EnerMech long enough to decide. My favourite subject at college is AutoCAD because I find it easy.

I would advise new apprentices joining EnerMech, not to be afraid to ask questions about anything, everyone is friendly and willing to help”.

Jarvis

Jarvis, aged 20, completed his PEO and is currently working towards his SVQ Level 3. Jarvis joined EnerMech in 2009 and has worked in Equipment Rental, Hose & Fittings, Machine Shop, Electrical department and has chosen to specialise in Rigging & Lifting. Jarvis received a Certificate of Commendation as part of the Apprentice of the Year 2012 Award.

In Jarvis's words:

“I enjoy my apprenticeship because there are so many opportunities to learn so many skills and we have the chance to get as much training as possible for the right job, and everyone is friendly.

I see myself getting through my college work and becoming the best engineer I can be because I work hard at college and apply myself at work.

I would like to become an on and offsite engineer and be able to work on installations with the lifting gear.

The lifting workshop became my favourite workshop because there is always work to do and there is more than enough to learn about and everyone is so helpful and friendly. I like all the subjects at college because they all teach you how to do your job.

I would tell new apprentices to stick in, apply yourself to the best of your ability because EnerMech is a big worldwide company and there is plenty of opportunities to go to different parts of the world”.
