Sam, aged 20 joined EnerMech in July 2010, Sam has completed his PEO Level 2 and is in 2nd year of his NC and has commenced his SVQ Level 3. Sam’s previous work placements include Equipment Rental, Electrical, Rigging & lifting, Hose & Fittings and Hydraulic Engineering and Fabrication. Sam is currently working in the Cranes Workshop and is the 2012 Apprentice of the Year.
In Sam's words:
"I enjoy the variation of the different departments and the experiences that I gain within them. My least favourite part of my apprenticeship is not being in one department long enough to thoroughly learn everything about it. I hope to complete my apprenticeship and have enough skills to progress into departments overseas and offshore for EnerMech. My main goal would be to travel with the Company and eventually be promoted to the Engineering office.
To date, I have generally enjoyed both hydraulic and electrical departments. I enjoy hydraulics because the work that comes into the department is extensive and varied.; The electrical department was enjoyable because I felt that I really understood it and that gave me plenty of confidence.
So far, the health and safety part of my course has been my favourite. I enjoyed this because the teacher was informative and kept me interested throughout his classes. If I could give some advice to new apprentices, it would be to focus on what they want to achieve from their apprenticeship and do it to the best of their ability.
Overall, my experience with EnerMech has been really enjoyable and I hope this continues."
